The Descarte Lie

The delusional belief to make oneself a god

There is, among the Christians, an insidious belief that has infected the minds of millions by causing them to believe that they are little gods. It is authentic, I can assure you. By taking scripture out of its original meaning and infusing it with new-age philosophies, they have convinced many to believe that they are gods, the brothers and sisters of the Lord Jesus, and will rule as such in an ever-expanding kingdom with untold worlds at their feet. Sounds like something out of a science-fiction franchise. Then, may I welcome you to the world of Christian-flavored fairy tales.

Rene Descartes, born March 31, 1596, died on February 11, 1650, was a noted mathematician and philosopher credited with being the father of modern philosophy. He is famously known for his dictum, “I think, therefore I am,” which is the metaphysical dualism of mind and spirit.

Encyclopedia Britannica.

Have you ever heard a believer make the same claim formulated slightly differently, such as, my words create, I am a god, visualizing, name it, claim it, and more? Well, they have derived their view from this man and his philosophies. And it all began when the serpent spoke to Eve and Adam, saying, “ye shall be as gods…” And there is nothing new under the sun.

This mindset has permeated all mainstream churches, which inevitably leads believers to place their personal views above the words of the Scriptures themselves. Statements such as, “That’s your opinion,” “That’s not how I see it,” and “That’s not the accurate meaning of the verse,” and more. And so, Bible revisions and many published works that flow from editorial boards with pre-determined parameters are heavily influenced by the words, “Cogito, ergo sum.” And all things follow the natural flow of thought emanating from the pen of the translators whose personal beliefs are revealed through their works. The results are manifest among the bleating sheep today, many of whom consider themselves little gods.

Such insidious teaching has slipped in and caused millions to become snared with vain philosophies and worthless intellectual parades that openly disregard the truths of Scripture. This is just one of the paper pillars the postmodern church has found itself leaning against the philosophical works of man.

A humble and sincere heart will trust in the inviolability of the Holy Scriptures, whereas the vain believer will attempt to aid their beliefs with the ad-libs of modern thought. As written, let God be true and every man a liar. And many love the lies they feed upon, not realizing that those who love and create lies will not inherit the kingdom of Heaven. But as the saying goes, ignorance is bliss, and far too many blissful believers are walking about and speaking of things they do not understand.

We are not gods in any shape, form, or thought. We cannot create like our Creator. We are not able to breathe into existence a conjured image, and God will never be abused by charismatic charlatans making the obnoxious claim that He must! God is not a man! He is a spiritual being, and we are His creation. He is the potter, and we are the clay.

Are you able to part the waters by speaking? Were you able to say to the mountain, be cast into the sea by faith, and it did? Have you ever tried striking the rock to quench your thirst? Your words have no value or power outside of the will of the Father in heaven, for the Lord Jesus has already told us that only those who do the will of the Father will be accepted by him. Are you doing his will by demanding that your words be accepted, irrespective of the Father’s will, teachings, and law?

Stay within the parameters of the Scriptures.

Believe what the Scriptures teach.

Reject all philosophies of man.

The Bible is your standard and the written source of truth.

Reject any words of man that go against the Word.

Trust and Obey goes without saying.

We know that this world is under the influence of the evil one, and clear are his wicked works. He has innumerable millions of servants in this world and the spiritual realm to facilitate his control and evil desires. But we have a clear mandate from the Lord to hold firm against evil, resist the devil, and remain faithful unto the end. But when you spend your time on foolish and vain philosophies of men, be sure that such teachings, when absorbed, will do much to hinder your walk with the Lord and, over time, will undoubtedly take you off the excellent path and instead lead you to perdition.

This is a short but sincere warning to all who have taken the baited hook and believe they are little gods. Do not listen to the lies! Hold firm to the Scriptures without fail, for Jesus has already told you he is the way, the truth, and the life. Then why do you go the way of the Descartes Lie?

Turn back unto the narrow way lest death overtake you on the broad way.

I remain your brother in the Lord Jesus.
